Crypto Scams Are Growing — Here’s How to Protect Yourself
A recent international crackdown led to more than 276 arrests tied to large-scale cryptocurrency scams targeting victims across the world. According to investigators, many of these scams involved fake crypto investments opportunities promoted through social media, dating apps, and messaging platforms.
As cryptocurrency becomes more popular, scams are becoming more advanced and more convincing. At AlaTrust Credit Union, we want our members to stay informed and aware of the warning signs.
How Crypto Scams Usually Work
Most cryptocurrency scams begin with an unexpected message online. Scammers often build trust over time before introducing a “can't miss” investment opportunity promising quick or guaranteed returns.
Victims are typically directed to fake websites or apps that appear legitimate. Some scammers even allow scall withdraws at first to build confidence before encouraging larger deposits. Once more money is sent, the scammer disappears, and the funds are often impossible to recover.
