Role

Responsible for processing mortgage loan applications from initial application through closing by reviewing and verifyingloan documentation, obtaining required information, coordinating with members and third parties, and maintainingaccurate loan files. Ensures mortgage loans are processed timely and accurately in accordance with Credit Union policies,procedures, secondary market requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements. Provides ongoing support formortgage loan servicing activities, including escrow administration and other duties related to the mortgage loan portfolio.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mortgage Loan Processing & Underwriting Support Prepares and reviews closing documents andaudits closed loans, including HELOCs. Updates computer system based on loan decision made byunderwriter. Prepares commitment letters or adverse action letters as needed.
  • Third-Party Services & Documentation Orders and tracks third-party services and documentationrequired to complete mortgage and real estate loan files, including credit reports, appraisals,surveys, title commitments, verifications, and other required documentation. Reviews informationreceived for accuracy and follows up with members, Mortgage Loan Officers, vendors, and otherparties to obtain outstanding items and resolve discrepancies.
  • Closing & Post-Closing Review Prepares and reviews required loan and closing documentation formortgage, real estate, and HELOC transactions based on approved loan terms. Coordinates closingrequirements and appointments with members, Mortgage Loan Officers, title companies, andother parties as needed. Performs post-closing audits to ensure documentation is complete,accurate, and properly executed.
  • Member & Third-Party Communication Serves as a point of contact throughout the mortgage loanprocess and communicates with members, Mortgage Loan Officers, realtors, title companies,appraisers, and other third parties regarding loan status, documentation needs, closingrequirements, and general questions. Provides timely and professional service and identifiesopportunities to connect members with other Credit Union products and services whenappropriate.
  • Escrow Administration Performs ongoing escrow administration for applicable mortgage loans,including timely payment of property taxes and insurance premiums. Completes annual escrowanalyses, processes required notices and overage refunds, collects and applies shortages asappropriate, responds to member questions, and maintains accurate escrow records.
  • Loan File, Reporting & Department Support Maintains complete and accurate electronic mortgageand real estate loan files and ensures required documentation is properly imaged and retained.Reviews files for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established requirements.Maintains required department and vendor reports and processes and reconciles departmentinvoices as assigned.
  • Compliance & Other Responsibilities Performs assigned duties in accordance with Credit Unionpolicies and procedures and applicable federal and state laws and regulations. Maintains requireddocumentation and supports internal audits, external audits, examinations, and quality controlreviews as requested. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Knowledge and Skills

Experience

  • Two to five years of similar or related experience in mortgage lending, loan processing, banking, or financial servicespreferred. Experience with mortgage loan documentation, escrow administration, real estate lending, and adjustable-ratemortgage requirements is beneficial.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional education or training in banking, finance, mortgage lending, or arelated field is preferred.

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required to work effectively with members, Mortgage Loan Officers,coworkers, realtors, title companies, vendors, and other third parties. Must be able to communicate clearly andprofessionally, handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion, provide explanations regardingdocumentation and the mortgage loan process, and work effectively with others to resolve questions or discrepancies.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple loan files, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with mortgage lending and financial institution systems, electronic documentmanagement, Microsoft Office applications, and other business technology. Ability to review and interpret loandocumentation, identify discrepancies, maintain accurate records, and handle confidential member informationappropriately.
